Generic conventions =)

For this section I will be researching two musical genres.

The two Genres I have pick is Classical and Rock. The reason for this is that I think these two genres have many differences. “Even if you are not an established musician, you can easily distinguish rock music from what is termed as classical music. There are several large differences between Rock and classical.

Both Genres are different but they are the same form of art. People see painters and sculptors as two different forms of art, but both are forms of visual art yet are different sub form, you can not say “this one’s better”, they’re two separate Genres. It comes down to a matter of taste, you either like it or you don't. There are great artists in both rock and classical.

The differences are show below....

Iconography is the branch of art history which studies the identification, description, and the interpretation of the content of images. The word iconography literally means "image writing", and comes from the Greek "image''.

The genre I would like to focus on is the genre 'Rock'. With this genre and all other genres there are particular things that lets the audiences know what type of genre it is such as location, costume, colour, camera, movement, editing style and instruments. But Rock is more of an obvious genre, In rock videos you tend to have a dark atmosphere with a lot of electric base instruments, their music tends to be louder than the singers voice and has a fast tempo. We can also tell from the locations because the rock music videos are mostly set in dull dark and smoky bars with little room and is usually very hectic, there camera movements are very sharp depending on the song and sometimes moves with the tempo. And the colour and costume are also very dull with blacks, greys, whites and greens, I think these colours are used to show sadness and darkness relating to the devil and so on. Their costumes are usually black basic clothing, hair is usually all colours and tends to be long and maybe covers some artists faces.
An example of a rock video is shown below.....
